THE OKLAHOMA STATE FAIRGROUNDS
Triad's A&E team is making multi-phased improvements to the State Fair Park for
Oklahoma City and the Oklahoma City Public Property Authority, Fair property manager.
The State Fair has been an Oklahoma tradition since Territorial Days when merchants,
farmers, and families met each autumn for agricultural trade, education, and a rare
urban social gathering. Since 1917, the City of Oklahoma City has owned the fair
site, first located east of the city then moved to the 440 acres southwest of OKC
where the fair has been held since 1954. Buildings, parking, and infrastructure
from fair site development in the 1960's and 1970's have become inadequate for the
present extended use of the park. The site is now an established venue for an array
of premier events throughout the year including horse shows, entertainment, economic
development, and technological and industrial exhibits.
In a Preliminary Design Report for State Fairgrounds Improvements, Triad identified
and prioritized relevant areas. The General Project Scope was divided into multiple
construction projects; some bid separately to avoid interference with Fair operations.
Triad proposed facilities, relocated when necessary, and designated construction
sequencing for the most efficient transition into new and renovated areas. The firm
will provide Design Reports, Architectural Design, Engineering Plans, and Construction
Administration for the projects.
The first contracts completed were Parking Lot Expansions with lighting, utility
relocations, and associated storm drainage including RCB extension and detention
ponds. ADA compliant sidewalk improvements identified in a 2007 OKC State Fair Park
study were bid with the parking lots. The accompanying Report evaluated attendance
figures to make recommendations for traffic, transit/shuttle, and parking strategies,
as well as capital and operating needs.
Vehicle Maintenance and Storage Buildings will be relocated from various park locations
and consolidated into one service/storage facility. The Livestock Feed and Bedding
Storage Facility will be moved in sequence as construction of other projects allows.
Consideration of facilities' operation, feed storage, maintenance, access, and security
are included in the Design Report.
Triad has also prepared Preliminary Plans and a Design Report for Fair Park Gateways
and Entrance, Security Fencing, directional Signage, and Traffic Flow Analysis and
is planning improvements for roadways adjacent to the park site and the relocation
of a 12" water main. Under consideration are recommendations for a parking lot shuttle
routes and ADA accessibility routes.
